GlobalFoundries provides semiconductor integrated circuit wafer foundry manufacturing services. The company does not design chips itself, but operates extremely complex cleanroom wafer fabrication plants. Upon receiving design blueprints provided by clients, it utilizes hundreds of processes such as physical photolithography, ion implantation, and thin-film deposition to process blank silicon wafers into physical silicon slices containing mature and specialty node circuits. Finished products are delivered on a large scale to various fabless electronic equipment vendors.
